Route 522 Crash Kills Cross Junction Woman

A single-vehicle crash over the weekend took the life of one woman in Frederick County.
The incident took place at 12:30 p.m. Sunday (4/14/2019) on Route 522, around half a mile south of Burnt Church Road. 63-year-old Johnnica J. Mason of Cross Junction was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee north on the road when she lost control of the vehicle; the Jeep struck an embankment and concrete pedestal before overturning. Mason was not wearing a seat belt, and succumbed to her injuries at Winchester Medical Center. Virginia State Police are currently investigating the cause of the crash.
