Salvation Army raising money to distribute gift cards to those in need
The COVID-19 pandemic has left many struggling for food, and The Salvation Army is hoping to provide some relief with Red Shield Gift Cards.
The Salvation Army in our region has a goal of raising $100,000 in order to distribute food gift cards to community members in need. Each Red Shield Gift Card gives local individuals and families the ability to buy food and necessary items, such as cleaning supplies, baby supplies and paper goods. The Salvation Army – National Capital and Virginia Division noted the number of requests coming in to food pantries have increased, leaving them unable to keep up with demand or stock specific items needed.
Since so many more people are turning to The Salvation Army for food, giving them the Red Shield Gift Card means that they can shop for just the essentials they need. Individuals will receive gift cards based on their need and family size.
