Shenandoah County Issues A Rabies Alert
On June 22, 2019 a raccoon was believed to have been in an altercation with two dogs, in a rural area near Stoneburner Road between Edinburg and Columbia Furnace in Shenandoah County. The raccoon was found dead by the dogs’ owners. It tested positive for rabies, according to the Lord Fairfax Health District and no longer poses a risk. However, if you are bitten, scratched, or licked by any wild animals in the area, seek medical attention immediately. Call the Shenandoah Health Department at 540-459-3733 with any questions.
