23 August 2016 Sports

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University men’s and women’s cross country teams are both picked to finish in the top eight in ODAC pre-season poll results released Friday by the league office.

The SU men, with 51 points, are picked sixth in their poll while the Hornet women are picked seventh in the women’s poll with 66 points.

Washington and Lee, which swept the 2015 ODAC Championships, is the pick to win both the men’s and women’s races again this year.

Voting was done on a 1-10 basis for the men and a 1-11 basis for the women with coaches forbidden from voting for their own teams in the polls.

In the men’s poll, Shenandoah is 14 point back of No. 5 selection Roanoke and nine in front of No. 7 Virginia Wesleyan.

On the women’s side, SU is just four behind No. 6 VWC and 18 in front of No. 8 Guilford.

Coach Andy Marrocco‘s squads both finished seventh in the 2015 championships.

Both teams open their respective seasons on September 1 at the Bridgewater Invitational.
