Old Winchester Hospital May Become Senior Housing
The site of the old Winchester Memorial Hospital may become the home of a new residential development for seniors.
Winchester’s Planning Commission reviewed a proposal at its Tuesday work session from Chicago-based Healthcare Development Partners to renovate and expand the site into a major senior housing complex. According to published reports, plans include creating as many as 165 two-bedroom apartments, as well as adding a gym, spa, beauty salon and swimming pool. Winchester Planning Director Timothy Youmans was quoted as saying that the proposal aligns with City Council’s redevelopment plans for the site and the Winchester Comprehensive Plan. It would require a Conditional Use Permit from the Winchester City Council, however; the Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the matter on December 18th where it will issue its recommendation. City Council will then likely make its final decision in February or March.
