SU Update, Caps Win Defensive Battle, Nats-Mets Series Begins Tonight

On the Shenandoah University scoreboard, Softball swept Eastern Mennonite, taking the opener 6-5, then the nightcap 10-2. Meanwhile, undefeated W&L swept Volleyball. Today, Women’s Tennis competes at Washington & Lee, while Softball plays at number-one ranked Virginia Wesleyan.

A full slate of Hornet Athletics is scheduled for the weekend, including nationally-ranked Baseball at Ferrum, and Men & Women’s Golf in the ODAC Championships.

Evgeny Kuznetsov lit the lamp in the shootout period, and the Washington Capitals won a tight, defensive battle against the New York Islanders 1-0. The win puts the Caps alone atop the NHL’s Eastern Division. The Capitals take on the Islanders again tomorrow, starting at 6:45 on the River 95-3.

And, the Nationals return to action tonight when they start a weekend series in New York against the Mets. The 7-9 Nats trail the first-place Mets by just a game in the tight NL East. Air time tonight is 6:40 on Sports Radio 1450. Joe Ross takes the hill for Washington against 3-0 Marcus Stroman.
