SU Baseball Wins 3rd Straight, Nats Blank Mets, Caps Clinch Metro
Shenandoah University baseball won it’s 3rd straight game yesterday with a 4-0 victory over Mount Aloysius. Freshman Mike Verzaleno threw 6 and 1/3 innings of shutout ball for his first collegiate win and Robert Marcelle had 3 hits, as the Hornets improved to 13-7 on the season. SU is back in action Saturday at noon when they host Lynchburg in an ODAC doubleheader.
Today, Outdoor Track & Field and men’s golf are in action, with a full schedule of events slated for the weekend.
Stephen Strasburg and a solid bullpen helped the Washington Nationals blank the New York Mets yesterday 4-0. The veteran righthander tossed 6 and 2/3 innings of 3-hit baseball before turning things over to 4 National’s relievers as Washington evened it’s record at 3 and 3. Victor Robles hit his 2nd homer of the year to lead the Nats, who have the day off today, before taking on the Mets tomorrow at 1:10.
The Baltimore Orioles dropped their second straight, falling to the Yankees 8-4 yesterday at Camden Yards. The 4-3 Birds are off today before taking on the Yanks Saturday night at 7:05.
The Washington Capitals clinched their 4th straight division title last night by nipping Montreal 2-1. Nic Dowd and Lars Eller lit the lamp for the Caps, while Braden Holtby stopped 33 Canadiens shots in the win. The Metro Division champs have one more regular season game Monday night when they host the New York Islanders. You can catch Capitals playoff action on CBS Sports radio 1450.
And Sports Radio 1450 has play-by-play of the NCAA Basketball Final Four starting tomorrow at 4:30. Virginia takes on Auburn in one National Semifinal, with Michigan State battling Texas Tech in the other. We’ll also have the National Championship game Monday night starting at 7:30.
