Nats Sink Pirates, ‘Skins Get Preseason Win, South Riding Bows Out
Max Scherzer returned to the Washington Nationals’ rotation last night in a 7-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. In a limited outing, Scherzer gave up just 1 run in 4 innings and struck out 3, at the Nats took 3 of 4 from the Bucs. Howie Kendrick added some insurance runs with a 2-run homer in the 8th, and the Nationals’ bullpen posted 5 scoreless innings in the victory. The Nats head to Wrigley Field for 3 games with the Cubs. Today’s air time is 1:50 on Sports Radio 1450.
Meanwhile the Orioles dropped a 5-2 decision to Tampa, in the process setting an all-time MLB record for most home runs given up in a season. The two teams play tonight at 7:05 at Camden Yards.
The Washington Redskins picked up their first preseason win of the season last night, defeating the Atlanta Falcons 19-7. ‘Skins quarterback Case Keenum was 9-of-14 for 101 yards, while rookie Dwayne Haskins completed 7-of-13 for 74 yards. Running back Derriuns Guice carried 11 times for 44 yards to lead Washington. The Redskins host the Ravens next Thursday before opening the regular season against the Eagles on September 8th.
The Ravens cruised to a 26-0 halftime lead against the Eagles on the way to a 26-15 win last night in Philadelphia. Baltimore is 3-0 in the preseason.
And, the dream of a Little League World Series title ended last night for the South Riding all-stars, as they lost an elimination contest against Louisiana, 10-0. The Loudoun County team now heads home, while Louisiana advances to the US title game against Hawaii.
