Nats and O’s PPD, NHL and NBA Protests, Nebraska Players Sue For Season
Amid the unrest over the shooting of Jacob Blake and in protest over racial injustice, the Washington Nationals and Philadelphia Phillies made the decision to not play their scheduled MLB game last night. The contest was one of 7 games not played last night, including the Baltimore Oriole’s matchup with Tampa Bay. The Nats are scheduled to play in Boston tonight, while the O’s will play Toronto. Air time for the Nationals-Bosox game is 7pm on CBS Sports Radio 1450.
Meanwhile, several sports leagues boycotted their games yesterday. NBA playoff games were postponed for a second straight day. An NBA spokesman said the league hopes to resume play either today or tomorrow.
And the NHL postponed two days of playoff games today and tomorrow in protest.
A group of Nebraska football players filed a lawsuit yesterday in hopes of forcing the Big Ten Conference to reinstate a fall football season. Among it’s claims, the suit says the players are losing a chance for development, exposure for a possible pro career, and won’t be able to market themselves to capitalize on revenue opportunities.
And, legendary college basketball coach Lute Olson has died. Olson built Arizona into a national basketball power, leading the Wildcats to 4 Final Four appearances in 24 seasons, and an NCAA championship in 1997. He was 85.
