SU Women Defeated, Caps Back In The Win Column, Alex Smith Update
The Shenandoah Women’s basketball team lost at Southern Virginia last night 67-58 in Buena Vista. The Knights scored 29 points in the final quarter as they improved to 7-1 on the season.
Ashley Stone led the Hornets with 16 points. Shenandoah, now 4-5, will travel to Randolph tomorrow for a 2 pm ODAC contest.
The Hornet men will face Guilford tomorrow at the Wilkins Center in an ODAC matchup. Air time is 1:45 on The River 95-3.
SU Quarterback Hayden Bauserman has been named a finalist for the prestigious Gagliardi Award. He becomes the first-ever Hornet to be named as a finalist for the so-called “D3 Heisman”, which encompasses athletics, academics, and community service. The 2018 winner will be announced before this year’s Stagg Bowl on December 14th in Shenandoah, Texas.
The Washington Capitals skates past the Arizona Coyotes last night 4-2 to break a 2-game losing streak. The Caps got the game-winner from Andre Burakovsky and improved to 16-9-3 on the season. Next up for the Caps, a Saturday skate in Columbus. Air time is 6:45 on NBC SportsRadio 1450.
Washington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith reportedly is having infection issues with his recent leg injury. Smith’s season came to an end several weeks ago against the Houston Texans. There is concern that the infection issues could end his football career for good. The depleted Redskins entertain the Giants Sunday at Fed-Ex Field.
Another week in the NFL began last night as the Tennessee Titand clobbered Jacksonville 30-9. Derrick Henry rushed for a franchise-record 238 yards, including a 99-yard touchdown run, as the Titans improved to 7-6.
