Area HS Scores, SU Comeback Falls Short, Caps back On Ice Sunday

In the only area high school game played yesterday, the Handley boys nipped Loudoun County 55-53.

A furious Shenandoah comeback fell short last night as the Hornet Men lost at Randolph 79-74. The Hornets were down by as many as 19 in the second half before cutting the lead to just one with a minute left, before falling to 0-4. SU is back in action tomorrow when they host Ferrum at 2. You can hear the action on The River 95-3.

On the Shenandoah weekend schedule, Women’s Hoop hosts Virginia Wesleyan tonight at 7, then goes on the road Sunday at 2 against Randolph. Track and Field competes in the VMI Winter Classic today, while Wrestling hosts Southern Virginia tomorrow at 7. Men’s Lacrosse plays at William Peace on Sunday.

In College Basketball tomorrow, number-9 Virginia hosts UNC at 6, while 14th-ranked WVU entertains number-12 Oklahoma at 1.

Alex Bowman has the pole for Sunday’s Daytona 500. The checkred flag drops at 2:30 from Daytona International Speedway.

And the Washington Capitals are back on the ice Sunday when they take on the Pittsburgh Penguins. Air time is 2:45 on The River 95-3.
