HS Scoreboard, Rangers Double Up Caps, Super Bowl Weekend

In girls high school basketball last night, Luray beat Page 66-51, Strasburg got past Clarke 58-51, Kettle Run got past Handley 37-28, and it was Highland over Randolph Macon Academy 65-17. In boys action, Strasburg defeated Clarke 51-43, Page routed Luray 85-53, and Handley beat Kettle Run 64-50.

On the Shenandoah University docket today, Track and Field will compete in Lynchburg, while Wrestling travels to Messiah College, then host Ferrum tomorrow at 2. On Sunday, Men’s Basketball will play at Hampden-Sydney at 2, while Women’s Basketball will host Ferrum at 2.

In D-1 college hoop tomorrow, number-14 Virginia hosts Pitt at 4, number-16 Virginia Tech plays at Miami at noon, and 17th-ranked WVU hosts number-23 Kansas at 2.

After a 6-0-3 start, the Washington Capitals have now lost 2 straight after a 4-2 loss to the New York Rangers last night. In the loss, Alex Ovechkin scored career goal number 709, passing Mike Gartner for 7th all time. The Caps get back on the ice Sunday at noon against the Philadelphia Flyers.

And, Super Bowl 55 on Sunday pits the Kansas City Chiefs against the Tampa Bay Bucs. The Chiefs, led by QB Patrick Mahomes, will be defending their title, while Tampa Bay signal-caller Tom Brady will be appearing in his record 10th Big Game. 25-thousand fans will be allowed inside Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium. Coverage begins at 2 on The River 95-3 and CBS Sports Radio 1450.
