Area HS Hoop, SU Women Fall To Marlins, Caps Double Up Bruins
In last night’s boy’s high school basketball:
Rappahannock defeated Stonewall Jackson 57-30
And the RMA girls fell to Foxcroft 19-18
In college basketball, the Shenandoah University women were held scoreless for the first 9 minutes of the contest in a 66-53 loss at Virginia Wesleyan last night. The hornets were able to cut the defecit to 4 with three minutes left, but the Marlins closed the game on a 10-1 run. Shenandoah, now 7-8 overall and 3-5 in the ODAC, returns to the Wilkins Center for a 2pm game tomorrow against Hollins.
The SU men are on the road at Ferrum tomorrow for a noon tip off. Air time is 11:45 am on The River 95-3.
The Washington Capitals doubled up the Boston Bruins last night in a 4-2 road win. It was the Caps’ 14th straight win over Boston. Nick Backstrom lit the lamp with the game-winning goal with just over 14 minutes left in the contest, and Alex Ovechkin added his league-leading 31st and 32nd goals of the season. The Capitals, now 27-12-4, entertain Columbus Saturday at 7 on Sports Radio 1450.
And, it’s Divisional Round weekend in the NFL playoffs. Tomorrow’s games have the Colts visiting the Chiefs at 4:35, followed by the Cowboys at Rams in an 8:15 start. On Sunday, the Chargers head to New England at 1:05, and the Saints host the Eagles at 4:40
