Maroons Down Hornet Women, NFL Championship Preview, Caps In Action Tonight
In girls’ high school basketball last night, Woodstock Central defeated Brentsville 41-25 in the only area contest.
To college hoop, where Roanoke broke open a tight game in the second quarter on the way to a 65-52 win over the Shenandoah women last night. The Maroons outscored the Hornets 24-15 in the second stanza and took a 12-point lead into the locker room. Sierra St. Cyr led SU with 16. The women return to action Tuesday at 7 against St. Mary’s.
The Hornet Men are back at the Wilkins Center tomorrow at 3 against Bridgewater. No fans are permitted in the Wilkins Center, but you can hear the call on The River 95-3.
Number 16 Virginia Tech returns to action tomorrow at noon against Syracuse, 13th-ranked UVA hosts Georgia Tech tomorrow night at 8, and number-14 WVU plays at K-State tomorrow at 4 after a long coronavirus-related layoff.
The NFL Conference Championship games will be played this Sunday as Tom Brady and the Bucs visit Aaron Rodgers and the Packers at 3:05 in the NFC title game. At 6:40, the Chiefs entertain the Bills for the AFC Championship. KC quarterback Patrick Mahomes remains in the concussion protocol. If he can’t play, backup Chad Henne will start for the Chiefs.
And, the Washington Capitals skate for the first time at home this season when they host the Buffalo Sabres. The Caps are 2-0-2, and will be without Alex Ovechkin and goalie Ilya Samsonov due to coronavirus issues. Air time is 6:45 on the River 95-3.
