VBL Season Begins, Nats’ Bats Silenced, O’s Back In Action Tonight

After a year without Valley League Baseball in 2020, the VBL returns to area ballparks this weekend. The NCAA-sanctioned league starts it’s 2021 campaign tomorrow with 5 games on tap, including New Market at Front Royal, Winchester at Purcellville, and Strasburg hosting New Market. All of those games begin at 7.

The Nationals’ bats went silent yesterday in a 5-1 loss to Atlanta. Washington managed just 4 hits against Braves’ pitching, 2 of those by second baseman Jordy Mercer. Nats’ starter Patrick Corbin threw shutout ball until the sixth inning, when he was touched up for 4 runs, as he suffered his fifth loss of the season. The Nationals now head to Philadelphia for a weekend series. Air time tonight is 6:35 on Sports Radio 1450.

The Baltimore Orioles are back in action tonight against Cleveland. First pitch at Camden Yards is 6:35.

And, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer have all advanced at the French Open tennis tournament. On the Women’s side, American Coco Gauff moved on to the third round.
