NHL Playoff Plan, Boxing Set To Return, Charity Golf Match Sunday
The NHL Players’ Association executive board is voting on a plan to return to play with a 24-team format, according to reports. The top 4 teams in each of the Eastern & Western Conferences would play each other for seeding, and the other 16 teams would compete in a best-of -five series play-in round to set the field of 16 teams that would compete for the Stanley Cup. Commissioner Gary Bettman said this week that 8 or 9 locations were being looked at as hub cities to resume the season.
Boxing is set to return from it’s coronavirus shutdown, with promoter Bob Arum saying yesterday that he’s planning a card of 5 fights on June 9th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and a second card 2 nights later. ESPN would air both cards, and there will be no fans. The Nevada Athletic Commission would still have to approve the fights.
And Tiger Woods & Peyton Manning face off against Phil Mickleson & Tom Brady this Sunday at the Medalist Golf Club in Florida. “The Match: Champions For Charity”will air at 3pm on a number of networks, and money raised will go to coronavirus relief.
