Wilkerson Misses 200m Final, Nats Bullpen Woes Continue, O’s Swept
Shenandoah University’s Shamyra Wilkerson just missed making the 200 meter final yesterday at the NCAA D-3 Track & Field Championships in Geneva, Ohio. Wilkerson ran a 24.95, good for fourth place in the first preliminary heat, but missed the final by 0.15 seconds. She will compete today in one of the 100 meter preliminaries.
The Hornet baseball team is 2 wins away from their third appearance in the D-3 College World Series. They’ll take on the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays in game one of a “Super-Regional” today in Baltimore. It’s a best 2-of-3 series, with the winner advancing to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Game 2 is scheduled for tomorrow.
yesterday, Tristan Baker and Keegan Woolford were named to the D3baseball.com All-South Region team. Baker was a second team selection, while Woolford was named to the third team.
The New York Mets completed a 4-game sweep of the Washington Nationals yesterday with a 6-4 victory. Once again, the Nat’s bullpen wasted a strong performance, as Wander Suero gave up a 3-run home run in the dreaded 8th inning. The Carlos Gomez blast erased a 4-3 Nationals lead and spoiled 7 strong innings by Stephen Strasburg. The Nationals return home to face the Miami Marlins in a 4-game weekend set. Air time is 6:35 tonight on Sports Radio 1450.
And the Baltimore Orioles were swept by the New York Yankees, who beat the Birds 6-5 yesterday at Camden Yards. The O’s tied the contest with a 4-run 8th, only to see the Yankees push across the go-ahead run in the 9th. The Orioles will be in Colorado tonight to take on the Rockies at 8:40.
