VHSL Playoffs Begin, SU Football Gives Way To B-Ball, Steelers Roll
5 area high school football teams are still playing as the VHSL Playoffs begin tonight. In Group 2A, Clarke County hosts Buffalo Gap tonight at 7
Another Group 2A contest has Central entertaining Strasburg at 7
In Group 4A, Millbrook takes on Kettle Run at 7, with the winner facing Sherando next week. The 9-1 Warriors have a first round bye.
The Shenandoah University Hornets will play their final football game tomorrow at Washington & Lee. The Hornets are 4-5 and 2-4 in the ODAC. The Generals have won 5 of the previous 6 meetings. Air time is 12:30 on The River 95-3.
Meanwhile, SU men’s basketball will travel to UMBC tomorrow at 1, while the Hornet women host Hood at the Wilkins center at 2. Shenandoah Cross Country will compete in the NCAA South/Southeast Regionals.
The Pittsburgh Steelers routed the Carolina Panthers in the NFL Thursday Night game 52-21. Ben Roethlisberger threw for 328 yards and 5 TD passes as the Steelers won their 5th straight game. The Panthers fall to 6-3 with the loss.
The Redskins try to improve to 6-3 when they travel to Tampa Bay Sunday for a 1pm kickoff. The Baltimore Ravens have the weekend off.
In college football this weekend,
Virginia Tech has a big matchup at Pitt. A Hokie win would set up a 3-way tie for first in the ACC Coastal Division.
UVA will entertain Liberty in a Route 29 battle.
And number 9 WVU tries to stay on track as they host TCU at noon tomorrow.
JMU will be at home to face Rhode Island
And, the Washington Capitals will be at home tonight to skate against Columbus. Air time is 6:45 on NBC SportsRadio 1450.
