The NFL season began last night with a game that featured 17 punts and numerous penalties, as the Green Bay Packers held off the Chicago Bears 10-3. Aaron Rogers threw the game’s lone TD pass, while the Packers defense added a clinching interception with 2 minutes to go.
The Washington Redskins open their 2019 campaign Sunday at Philadelphia. Case Keenum will start at QB for the ‘Skins in the 1pm kickoff.
The Baltimore Ravens travel to Miami Sunday for a 1pm kickoff.
To baseball, where the Washington Nationals fell to the Atlanta Braves last night 4-2. Braves’ starter Max Fried hurled 7 innings of 1-hit baseball, allowing only a first inning infield single by Anthony Rendon. The Nats got a ninth inning 2-run homer from Victor Robles, but it was not enough, as Washington fell 8 games behind Atlanta in the NL East. The two teams play tonight at 7:20.
The Rangers beat the O’s last night 3-1 at Camden Yards, despite being outhit by the Birds 10-5. The two teams play tonight at 7:05.
And Serena Williams advanced to the US Open final in dominating fashion, beating Elina Svitolina 6-3, 6-1. Williams will take on Canada’s Bianca Andreescu in Saturday’s final. The men’s semifinals take place today.
