SU Recap, Adams & Nats walk Off Padres, O’s Fall To Twins
On the Shenandoah University sports scene:
Baseball earned the 3-seed in the upcoming ODAC tournament with a 5-1 win over Guilford yesterday at Bridgeforth Field. The 24-11 Hornets will now face 6-seed Hampden-Sydney this weekend in a best 2-of-3 series. Junior Reeves Lowry was dominant yesterday in a complete game victory. SU will play today at 4 in a non-league game at Susquehanna.
Women’s golf stands second after day-one of the ODAC Championships in Greensboro with a collective 349, 32 strokes behind W&L. The Hornet men are in 9th after day-one. Play resumes today.
Men’s tennis ended it’s season with a 6-3 ODAC win over Ferrum, while Women’s tennis dropped an 8-1 decision to Ferrum in it’s finale.
Matt Adams’ walk-off home run in the 11th inning completed a Washington Nationals 7-6 comeback win yesterday against the San Diego Padres in DC. Down 6-0, the Nats fought their way back with home runs from Juan Soto, Victor Robles, and Carter Kieboom , and got 8 scoreless innings from their bullpen to avoid a weekend sweep. The 12-14 Nationals start a 4-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals tonight at Nats Park. Air time is 6:35 on Sports Radio 1450.
The Orioles fell to Minnesota 4-1 yesterday, as the Twins completed their second sweep of the Birds this season. The 10-19 O’s are in Chicago tonight to take on the White Sox at 8:10.
And Chase Elliott picked up his first victory of 2019, winning the GEICO 500 NASCAR event at Talladega Superspeedway. The race ended under caution after a chaotic final lap, as Elliott outlasted Alex Bowman and Ryan Preece for the win.
