SU Update, Cavs Play For National Title, Nats Survive In NY
On the Shenandoah University sports scene:
Baseball routed Penn State-Harrisburg in a non conference game yesterday 13-4. The 15-8 Hornets also split a Saturday doubleheader with Lynchburg. In other SU sports yesterday:
Softball split 2 with Randolph
Women’s golf finished 5th at the York Invitational
Men’s golf finished with a collective 297 at Camp Lejune
And Hollins nipped women’s tennis 5-4
The Virginia Cavaliers will play for the men’s NCAA National Basketball Championship tonight when they take on Texas Tech. The Cavs survived Auburn Saturday with a miracle finish, while the Red Raiders got past Michigan State. Both teams feature strong defenses. Coverage begins tonight at 7:30 on Sports Radio 1450, with tip off just after 9pm.
Baylor beat defending champ Notre Dame 82-81 to win the NCAA Women’s Championship last night.
The Washington Nationals took advantage of 12 walks by New York Mets pitchers, and got a 3-run homer from Anthony Rendon, then survived yet another bullpen meltdown in a 12-9 win yesterday at Citi Field. Max Scherzer pitched 6 1/3 innings to pick up his first victory of the yearn for the Nats, who begin a series in Philadelphia tonight at 7:05.
The Baltimore Orioles dropped their 4th consecutive game after a 4-1 start, as they were hammered by the Yankees yesterday 15-3. Gary Sanchez hit 3 of the 7 New York home runs yesterday to lead a 15-hit attack. the Birds host Oakland tonight at 7:05.
And, the Washington Capitals begin defense of the Stanley Cup starting Thursday night, as the NHL playoffs begin. The Caps host Carolina in Game 1 of the best-of-seven opening round series. Air time is 7:15 on Sports Radio 1450.
