The Washington Nationals were gut-punched last night by the Chicago Cubs 4-3, as David Bote hit a 2-out grand slam in the bottom of the 9th against reliever Ryan Madson. The walk-off homer ruined another great outing by Nats starter Max Scherzer, who allowed no runs and struck out 11 in 7 innings of work. The Nationals will try to regroup with a trip to St. Louis. Air time tonight is 7:30 on NBC SportsRadio 1450.
Chris Sale celebrated his return from the DL with a 12 strikeout performance against the Orioles. The Birds are off until tomorrow night, when they begin a series against the Mets.
A fight broke out yesterday during a joint practice between the Washington Redskins and New York Jets. The altercation spilled into the fan attendance area, although it’s not clear who started the fracas. The two teams meet Thursday night in preseason action.
Brooks Koepka held off a charging Tiger Woods to win the PGA Championship outside of St. Louis. Koepka becomes only the 5th player to win both the US Open and PGA in the same year. For Woods, his closing round 64 was his lowest ever in a major championship.
Kevin Harvick won all 3 stages and breezed to victory in the NASCAR Cup event in Michigan.
