Express Await South Winner, Nats Lose Series To D-Backs, O’s Nip Jays

Last night in the Valley League baseball playoffs, the Charlottesville TomSox evened their best-of-three South Division final series with a 9-7 win over Staunton. The two teams will play a deciding game three tonight in C’Ville at 7pm, with the winner advancing to the VBL Championship series. The Strasburg Express await tonight’s winner after winning the North title Friday with an 11-10 win over Woodstock.

The Washington Nationals ended a disappointing weekend with a 7-5 loss at Arizona yesterday. Nats’ starter Patrick Corbin was roughed up for 5 runs against his former team as the Nationals dropped 2 of 3 from the D-backs. The Nationals got home runs from Gerardo Parra and Brian Dozier but fell to 58-53 on the season. The Nats head to San Francisco to start a 3 game series tonight. Air time is 9:15 on Sports Radio 1450.

The Baltimore Orioles got past the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday 6-5 at Camden Yards. The O’s were out-hit by Toronto 13-6, but took advantage of 2 Jays miscues to get the win. The Birds entertain the New York Yankees tonight at 7:05.

J.T.Poston became a first-time PGA Tour winner by firing a final round 62 to capture the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C.

And on the Nascar Monster Energy circuit, Chase Elliott outlasted Martin Truex, Jr. to win at Watkins Glen. The win was the second of the season for Elliott.
