SU Update, College Hoop Recap, Caps In Action Tonight
On the Shenandoah University sports scene:
Hornet men’s basketball fell Saturday at Ferrum 85-79. Down at the half by 10, SU started the second stanza with a 14-3 run, but 2 Ferrum scoring runs sent Shenandoah to it’s fifth consecutive loss. Next up for the 6-16, 3-10 men, a Saturday Senior Day matchup against Lynchburg. Tip off is 2pm on The River 95-3.
A better result for the Hornet women, who beat Emory & Henry Saturday at the Wilkins Center, 63-56. SU fell behind early 19-6 but battled back to beat the Wasps for just the second time in program history. SU, now 14-7 overall, and 10-4 in the ODAC, will head to Bridgewater Tuesday for a 7pm tip.
Over the weekend:
Hornet men’s lacrosse topped William Peace 20-8
Women’s tennis beat Juniata 7-2
Men’s tennis lost to Juniata 8-1
In college basketball Saturday:
UVA lost to #5 Louisville 80-73
Virginia Tech fell to Boston College 77-73
and #13 WVU suffered a 69-59 road loss at Oklahoma
The XFL opened play this weekend and in front of a near-capacity crowd at Audi Field, the DC Defenders beat the Seattle Dragons 31-19.
Cardale Jones threw for 291 yards and 2 scores, and the Defender defense chipped in with a pick-six. Next up for DC, a 2pm Saturday kickoff at home against the New York Guardians.
And, the Washington Capitals take the ice tonight hoping to rebound from a 7-2 loss against the Flyers this weekend. The Caps entertain the New York Islanders tonight at 6:45 on CBS Sports Radio 1450.
