SU Men & Women Drop Road Games, Another Test For UVA, Caps In Action
Over the weekend the Shenandoah University men dropped a 96-70 road contest at Lynchburg. SU fell behind 31-11 on the way to their 18th loss on the season. Shenandoah was able to cut the lead to 11 early in the second half, but Lynchburg’s 16-2 run sealed the deal. Chris Chaney had 20 for the Hornets, who finish their season with home games Wednesday against Virginia Wesleyan and Saturday versus Randolph. Those games can be heard on The River 95-3.
The Hornet women suffered a disappointing 57-52 loss at Hollins Saturday. SU was outscored by Hollins 18-10 in the third period, and that provided the cushion HU needed to gain just their third ODAC win on the year. Shenandoah was led by Shannon Kuhn and McKenzie Mathis, who had 9 points apiece. The Hornet women play their final home game of the season Wednesday at 5 versus Eastern Mennonite.
In other Shenandoah University athletics over the weekend:
Men’s tennis opened with a 5-3 win against Penn State-Altoona,
and indoor track broke one school record, posted 17 ODAC championship qualifying marks, and recorded 24 personal bests at the VMI Winter Relays.
After an 81-71 home loss to Duke over the weekend, the Virgina Cavaliers go right back into the fire tonight when they travel to number 8 North Carolina for a 7pm tip-off.
And the Washington Capitals host the Los Angeles Kings tonight on Sports Radio 1450. The Caps are 30-18-7, good for second place in the NHL’s Metro Division. Face off is at 7.
