VBL Playoffs Begin…Nats Blast Dodgers…Kopepka Wins St.Jude
The Valley League playoffs began last night, with 4 best-of-three series. Here are the results of last night’s contests:
Strasburg beat Winchester 8-4 (Express lead 1 game to none)
Woodstock outscored New Market 10-8 (River Bandits lead 1-0)
Staunton defeated Waynesboro 8-2 (Braves lead 1-0)
and Charlottesville pounded Covington 9-4 (Tom Sox lead 1-0)

Stephen Strasburg tossed 7 innings of 1-run, 2-hit ball yesterday as the Nationals routed the Dodgers 11-4 yesterday to salvage one game of the weekend series. Brian Dozier’s 2-run homer in the 5th inning was the key blow in the Nats’ 14-hit attack. The Nationals start a key 3-game series with division rival Atlanta tonight in DC. The Nats are 5 1/2 games behind the Braves in the NL East. Air time is 6:35 on Sports Radio 1450.
The L.A. Angels walked off the Orioles yesterday 5-4. The Birds, who blew a 2-run lead, continue their West Coast swing tonight against the San Diego Padres at 10:10 pm.
On the PGA Tour, Brooks Koepka suffered no side effects from the British Open, as he won the WGC-St.Jude Invitational. Koepka finished with a 16 under-par total, 3 shots clear of the field.
And…Toyotas finished 1-2-3 as Denny Hamlin won this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series event at Pocono. Erik Jones and Martin Truex, Jr. finished second and third, respectively.
