Simpson Wins RBC Heritage, Tiz The Law Takes Belmont, NASCAR Race PPD
American Webb Simpson won the RBC Heritage PGA Tour event yesterday in Hilton Head, SC, after a 3-hour rain delay. Simpson’s 22 under-par total was good enough to nip Abraham Ancer by one shot at Harbour Town Golf Links.
Heavily favored Tiz The Law won Saturday’s Belmont Stakes, the first leg of horse racing’s 2020 Triple Crown. No fans were in attendance because of the pandemic, and this year’s race was shortened to 1 and 1/8 miles instead of the usual 1 and 1/2. Next up, the Kentucky Derby
on September 5th, followed by the Preakness in October.
And, yesterday’s NASCAR Cup Series race in Talladega was postponed to today because of rain. A limited number of fans will be allowed to view the race. In a related story, NASCAR is investigating the hanging of a noose in the garage stall of the circuit’s only black driver, Bubba Wallace. The incident happened just 2 weeks after NASCAR banned the Confederate flag at it’s events.
