SU Athletics on Hold…Scherff Gets Franchise Tag…Nats Moves
In a statement released Friday on their website, Shenandoah University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Bridget Lyons, announced that effective the 14th, SU Athletic events would be suspended for 2 weeks due to the ongoing coronavirus situation. In addition, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference has decided to do the same. Both the university and the league will continue to evaluate.
On Friday, Women’s Golf finished 2nd and Men’s Golf finished 4th at the Spring Fling Tournament in Kissimmee, Florida.
Over the weekend, the Washington Redskins placed the franchise tag on right guard Brandon Scherff, which all but ensures that he will remain with the team for at least another year. The 28 year-old Scherff was scheduled to be a free agent and was considered to be one of the best linemen available.
The Washington Nationals have released veteran reliever Hunter Strickland. The 31 year-old righthander gave up 11 homers in 29 and 2/3 innings, including regular season, postseason, and Spring training.
And, after saying they would run their next two races without fans, NASCAR decided to cancel those races altogether. The next scheduled Cup race is March 29th.
