SU Recap, Hokies Extinguish Flames, UVA Advances, Caps Win
On the SU sports scene:
Hornet softball split a pair of games with Mary Washington yesterday, winning 10-5 and losing 4-0.
Women’s golf finished 2nd in a tri-match yesterday in College Park, Md., while the men finished first at the same course.
Baseball split a pair of games against Roanoke
Softball split a doubleheader with Ferrum
Women’s lacrosse beat Virginia Wesleyan, while the men fell to the Marlins
Hampden-Sydney blanked Men’s tennis
And Track and Field competed in the Gouucher Invitational. The Men finished 6th, while the Women finished 4th
There are no events scheduled for today at SU.
The Virginia Tech Hokies have advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, with a 67-58 win over Liberty. The Flames led by 3 at the break before Tech established it’s dominance in the second half. Kerry Blackshear, Jr. led the way with 19 points for the Hokies, who will now take on Duke. The Blue Devils survived a scare from UCF yesterday in a 77-76 nail biter.
The Virginia Cavaliers used their patented defense to prevail yesterday, 63-51 over Oklahoma. The number-1 seed Hoos will now advance to the Sweet Sixteen, where they will take on Oregon late Thursday night.
Other winners yesterday included North Carolina, Tennessee, Houston, and Texas Tech.
WVU hopes to continue it’s basketball season tonight when they host Coastal Carolina in round two of the CBI tournament.
The Capitals broke a 2-game losing streak yesterday with a 3-1 win against the Flyers. Braden Holtby stopped 35 shots for the Caps, who lead the NHL’s Metro Division. Next up for the Capitals, a 7pm face off against Carolina on CBS SportsRadio 1450.
