SU Scoreboard, Caps Hang On, Elite 8 Now Set
On the Shenandoah University scoreboard from the weekend, Baseball swept Virginia Wesleyan 16-3 and 7-6 to improve to 10-1. Meanwhile, Women’s Golf finished fourth at the Knights Invitational at Southern Virginia, Women’s Lacrosse blanked Virginia Wesleyan 21-0, Men’s Lacrosse routed Randolph 21-1, and Track & Field took home 9 wins at the Jopson Invitational at Bridgewater.
On Friday, SU Football came from behind to beat Bridgewater 19-18, as QB Chris Sonnenberg hit Brant Butler with the winning TD pass with just 32 seconds left. The two teams, who have already met twice this year, will compete in an ODAC “playoff” game Saturday at 5 at Shentel Stadium.
The Washington Capitals survived a 4-goal Rangers flurry in the third period yesterday to post a 5-4 win. The Caps got 2 goals from Tom Wilson, and what proved to be the game winner from TJ Oshie to win their 10th game in their last 11. The Capitals and Rangers skate again tomorrow night at 7 on The River 95-3.
The Elite Eight is now set in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Yesterday, 11-seed UCLA shocked 2-seed Alabama in OT, 88-78 to advance. Other winners yesterday were number-one seeds Gonzaga and Michigan, and 6-seed USC. The Tournament resumes tonight with Oregon State taking on Houston, and Baylor battling Arkansas.
And due to threatening weather yesterday, the NASCAR Cup Series dirt race at Bristol will be run today.
