SU Baseball Advances, Nats Walked Off By Yanks, Caps Clinch Second
Shenandoah University Baseball has advanced to the second round of the ODAC Tournament with an 18-5 win over Hampden Sydney yesterday at Bridgeforth Field. The Hornets scored at least 2 runs in the first five innings in eliminating the 18-14 Tigers, and winning the best-of-three series 2 games to 1. Number 16 Shenandoah will now face Eastern Mennonite in a semi-final series this coming weekend. The 8-seed Royals eliminated top-seed Randolph-Macon this past weekend.
The New York Yankees walked off the Washington Nationals for the second day in a row with a 3-2 win yesterday at Yankee Stadium. Giancarlo Stanton’s sharp single off of Brad Hand in the bottom of the ninth sent the Nats to their fifth loss in their last six games. Kyle Schwarber hit a 2-run homer for Washington, who is off today before starting a series with Philadelphia tomorrow on Sports Radio 1450.
Meanwhile, Boston nipped Baltimore 4-3 yesterday at Camden Yards. The Birds and Bosox play again tonight at 7:05.
The Washington Capitals clinched second place in the NHL’s Eastern Division with a 2-1 overtime win over Philadelphia on Saturday. The Caps wrap up the regular season tomorrow with the Boston Bruins. Air time is 6:45 on the River 95-3.
And Rory McIlroy won the PGA Tour’s Wells Fargo Championship yesterday at Quail Hollow Golf Course. His 10-under total was one better than Abraham Ancer.
