UFC Holds Event, MLB Finishing Proposal, Hamlin Wins iRace
UFC 249 was held Saturday at Jacksonville, Florida’s Veterans Memorial Arena, marking the first return of a live major pro sporting
event since the pandemic shutdown. There were no fans, the octagon was disinfected between bouts, and testing and masks were required for nearly everyone there. The UFC has 2 more fight nights scheduled this week in Jacksonville, beginning Wednesday.
Major League Baseball is working on finishing it’s proposal for a delayed 2020 season, which would begin in early July and have an 80-game schedule, according to the Athletic. Teams would play regionalized schedules, and games would be played in as many home cities as possible. Initially, there would be no fans. The proposal will be discussed by owners today, and presented to the players union tomorrow.
And, Denny Hamlin won the final race in NASCAR’s iRacing Series Saturday, taking the checkered flag at a virtual North Wilkesboro track. William Byron led the 7-race series with three victories, but didn’t compete in the finale. Live racing resumes this Sunday at Darlington, without fans.
