SU Baseball Wins Regional, Nats Fall Short, Koepka Wins 4th Major
Shenandoah University beat host Kean University twice yesterday to capture it’s first NCAA Regional title since 2010. After losing it’s opener Friday to the Cougars, the Hornets won 4 straight elimination games, disposing of Westfield and top-seed Ithaca Saturday before sweeping Kean yesterday. Yesterday, Shenandoah overcame deficits of 3-1 and 4-2 to win 6-4 in 10 innings, then stymied the Cougars in the championship game 4-1. The Hornets will now play Johns Hopkins in a best-of-three Super Regional this weekend. A location will be announced today.
A Washington Nationals comeback fell short last night in a 6-5 defeat at the hands of the Chicago Cubs. The Nats, down 6-1, got home runs from Anthony Rendon and Howie Kendrick to close the gap to one run, but could pull no closer as they fell 8 games back in the NL East. The Nationals hit the road tonight as they take on the Mets from Citi Field. Air time is 6:40 on Sports Radio 1450.
The Cleveland Indians blanked the Orioles 10-0 yesterday to drop the O’s to 15-31 on the season. The Birds host the Yankees tonight at 7:05.
And, Brooks Koepka won his second consecutive PGA Championship yesterday, holding off Dustin Johnson by 2 shots. Koepka, who had a commanding 7-shot lead heading into the final round at the demanding Bethpage Black course, saw his lead shrink to one shot, but hung on for the fourth major victory of his career.
