SU Baseball Snubbed, Nats Sweep O’s, Mickleson Oldest To Win A Major

After losing the ODAC title game to Lynchburg Saturday in heartbreaking fashion, Shenandoah University Baseball was left out of the 48-team NCAA D-3 tournament field yesterday in selections made by the organization. The 31-11 Hornets were hoping to secure at at-large Pool C bid by virtue of their record and being ranked in the nation’s top-20 for most of the season. The 9-8 loss to Lynchburg Saturday wraps up the Spring sports season at SU.

The Washington Nationals nipped the Baltimore Orioles yesterday 6-5 to complete a 3-game weekend sweep. Patrick Corbin battled through 5 and 2/3 innings to get the win for the Nats, who improved to 20-23. The Nationals are off today before starting a series with the Reds tomorrow on Sports Radio 1450.

50 year-old Phil Mickelson became the oldest golfer to win a major by capturing the 103rd PGA Championship yesterday on the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island. Mickelson faltered down the stretch, but managed to hold off Brooks Koepka and Louis Oosthuizen for the coveted Wanamaker Trophy. It was Mickelson’s 6th major championship overall.

Boston Bruins eliminated the Washington Capitals yesterday 3-1 to take that opening round NHL Playoff series four games to one. For the Caps, it was their third straight first round exit from the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

And, The Washington Wizards dropped Game 1 of their NBA Playoff series to top-seed Philadelphia 76ers, 125-118. Game 2 is Wednesday in Philly.
