SU Update, Nats Lose Series In Philly, Derby Controversy
Shenandoah University blanked Hampden-Sydney Saturday 5-0 to take game one of their first-round ODAC Tournament series. The Hornets and Tigers were rained out yesterday and will play game two at 2pm this afternoon at Bridgeforth Field. Should SU win that game, they would move on to the second round. A Hampden-Sydney win would mean a deciding game 3, which would take place 30 minutes after the conclusion of game two.
The Shenandoah Women’s lacrosse season came to an end Saturday with a 20-9 loss in the ODAC semifinals to number-one seed Washington & Lee. The Hornets finish with a 12-7 record.
The Philadelphia Phillies broke open a tight 2-1 contest with 5 runs in the 6th inning and beat the Washington Nationals yesterday 7-1. The Nats’ only run came on a Kurt Suzuki home run in the 4th inning, his 3rd homer of the weekend. Anibal Sanchez took the loss for the Nationals, who fall to 14-19 on the season. The Nats head to Milwaukee tonight to start a series withe the Brewers. Air time is 7:10 on Sports Radio 1450.
The O’s and Rays were rained out yesterday. Baltimore hosts Boston tonight at Camden Yards. First pitch is 7:05.
The NASCAR Monster Energy Series race at Dover was also washed out yesterday. They’ll try again today at noon at the Monster Mile. Chase Elliott is on the pole.
And over the weekend, there was controversy at the Kentucky Derby as apparent winner Maximum Security was disqualified for obstruction, and long shot Country House was declared the winner. The decision came 21 minutes after Maximum Security crossed the finish line as race stewards reviewed the video replay.
