Area HS Playoff Recap, SU Update, ‘Skins Fall To 1-9

In high school football playoff action this weekend:
In Class 4, Region C
Millbrook fell to Broad Run 34-26
Tuscarora beat Sherando 47-17
and Handley was eliminated by Loudoun Valley 13-9

In Class 3, region B
Skyline advanced by beating William Monroe 42-20
James Monroe ousted central 60-28

In Class 2, region B
Strasburg defeated Luray 38-21
East Rockingham routed Clarke 41-7
and Buckingham County eliminated Page in OT 20-19

The Shenandoah Hornets fell behind 21-7 against Washington & Lee Saturday and never quite caught up, falling to the Generals 34-31 at Shentel. The Hornets squandered 2 red zone trips with interceptions as they fell to 5-4 overall, and 4-4 in the ODAC. SU finishes the season this Saturday when they entertain Methodist in a rescheduled September contest. Air time is 11:30 am on The River 95-3.

Elsewhere on the SU athletic scene:
Women’s field hockey captured the ECAC Championship with a 3-2 overtime win over Lebanon Valley yesterday. MVP Kelsey Jones scored all 3 goals for the 17-4 Hornets, as they won their first-ever ECAC crown.

The Shenandoah women finished 9th in the 33-team NCAA South/Southeast Regional Cross Country meet in Memphis.

And women’s hoop got it’s first win of the season Friday night, a 63-59 win at home against Southern Virginia.

In the NFL yesterday, the Washington Redskins fell to 1-9 with a 34-17 loss to the New York Jets at Fed-Ex Field. Jets QB Sam Darnold tossed 4 TD passes against a beleaguered Washington secondary, while ‘Skins quarterback Dwayne Haskins was under constant pressure all afternoon long. Next up for Washington, a home game against Detroit on Sunday.

The Ravens continued to roll, as they routed Houston 41-7
The Cowboys outlasted the Lions 35-27
The Rams defeated the Bears in the Sunday Night game 17-7
and the Chiefs take on the Chargers tonight.

The Washington Capitals entertain the Anaheim Ducks tonight at Capital One Arena. Air time is 6:45 on CBS Sports Radio 1450.
