Area HS Recap, Skins Get First Win, Nats Return To DC In NLCS

Skyline beat Woodstock Central 35-21
Warren County outscored George Mason 37-33
Strasburg beat East Rockingham 39-6
Liberty shaded Sherando 20-13
Handley defeated Millbrook 21-13
James Wood got past Culpeper 28-21
Luray nipped Clarke 35-34
and Page routed Rappahannock 56-0
The Shenandoah University hornets committed 5 turnovers Saturday and lost at Randolph-Macon 35-14. The 5-1, 4-0 Yellow Jackets piled up 302 rushing yards and held the ball over 36 minutes against the 3-2, 2-2 Hornets. SU quarterback Ben Agostino threw for 259 yards and 2 scores, but also threw 3 interceptions. Shenandoah heads to Hampden-Sydney this Saturday for an ODAC matchup. Air time is 12:30 on The River 95-3.
The Washington Redskins survived a failed 2-point attempt with 6 seconds remaining and picked up their first win of the season, a 17-16 victory in Miami. Adrian Peterson rushed for 118 yards for the ‘Skins, while rookie receiver Terry McLaurin hauled in 2 touchdown passes from Case Keenum. The 1-5 Redskins host the 49ers this Sunday.

The Washington Nationals return to DC tonight for Game 3 of the National League Championship series with a commanding 2-0 lead over the St. Louis Cardinals. Washington pitching has held the Cards to just 1 run and 4 hits in the first 2 games of the series. Stephen Strasburg gets the ball tonight for the Nats. Air time is 7pm on Sports Radio 1450.
And, the Washington Capitals host the unbeaten Colorado Avalanche this afternoon in DC. Face off is 5pm at Capital One Arena. The Caps are 3-1-2, good for second place in the NHL’s Metro Division.
