Weekend HS Football…Skins & Ravens Win…SU Football Recap

Here are your high school football scores from the weekend:
Skyline fell to James Wood 20-14
Handley stayed undefeated with a 41-35 win at Clarke County
Millbrook routed Washington (WV) 46-6
Sherando disposed of Broadway 55-6
and Rappahannock lost to Northern Virginia Homeschool 57-6

The Shenandoah University Hornets improved to 2-0 on the season with a rain-sokaed 59-21 win over NC Wesleyan in their home opener Saturday night. SU got off to a quick 14-0 lead, added a goal line stand on defense, then pulled away in the second half. Shenandoah QB Hayden Bauserman tossed 6 TD passes, and the Hornets added 207 rushing yards in the victory. Next up for SU is a home date Saturday with Hobart. Air time is 6:30 on The River 95-3.

Around the region in college football Saturday:
Virginia Tech disposed of William & Mary 62-17
Virginia fell to Indiana 20-16
WVU pulled away from Youngstown State 52-17
and JMU blanked Norfolk State 17-0

Alabama remains number one in the AP College Football Poll. Virginia Tech and West Virginia are number 13 & 14 respectively.

The Washington Redskins won their first season opener in the Jay Gruden era with a convincing 24-6 win at Arizona. The Redskins built a 21-0 halftime lead, holding the Cardinals to just 36 first-half yards. ‘Skins QB Alex Smith threw for 255 yards, while newly-added running back Adrian Peterson chipped in with 96 yards on the ground.

Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens routed the Buffalo Bills 47-3. Joe Flacco was 25-of-34 for 236 yards and 3 TDs.

And an injured Aaron Rogers led the Packers past the Bears last night 24-23
Tonight, it’s a Monday Night Football doubleheader as the Jets visit the Lions, and the Raiders host the Rams.

And in baseball…the Nats & Cubs were washed out yesterday. The Nats are scheduled to start a series in Philadelphia tonight. Air time is 6:30 on NBC SportsRadio 1450. The O’s were beaten by Tampa 8-3.
