Skins Wilt In Second Half, Nats Salvage Series Finale, HS Results
In High School football over the weekend:
Timber Creek Regional routed Warren County 58-7 on Saturday
Skyline beat Broadway 32-7 (Hawks are now 2-0)
Strasburg defeated Mason 35-20
Handley disposed of Harrisonburg 31-13
Millbrook fell to Loudoun County 27-18
Sherando pounded Jefferson 41-7
and it was Central over Stonewall Jackson 55-8
In the college ranks:
Va Tech held off ODU 31-17
and WVU lost at Missouri 38-7
The Washington Redskins saw an early 17-0 lead slip away and dropped their opener to the Philadelphia Eagles 32-27. The ‘Skins were burned by 2 long TD receptions from DeSean Jackson as the Eagles dominated the second half of play. Washington QB Case Keenum was 30 of 44 for 380 yards and 3 scores in the losing effort. The ‘Skins now host the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday at Fed-Ex field. Dallas was dominant in a 35-17 win yesterday against the Giants.
The Ravens rolled over hapless Miami 59-10. Baltimore piled up over 600 yards of offense against the Dolphins, including 324 passing yards from Lamar Jackson.
The Patriots celebrated their latest Super Bowl banner ceremony in a 33-3 rout of the Steelers in the Sunday Night game. And tonight, it’s
Houston at New Orleans, and Denver at Oakland in a Monday Night doubleheader.
The Washington Nationals salvaged a win in the series finale against the Braves yesterday, winning 9-4. Max Scherzer tossed 6 innings of 9-strikeout ball, and took advantage of 4 Nats homers, including 2 from Yan Gomes. The Nationals have the day off before visiting Minnesota tomorrow night on Sports Radio 1450.
And, Rafael Nadal won the US Open men’s title yesterday. Serena Williams lost the women’s title over the weekend.
