NFL “Virtual” Draft Tonight, New NHL Plan, Bosox Get Wrist Slap
The NFL Draft begins tonight in a “virtual” format, due to the pandemic. US sportsbooks are predicting it will be the most bet-on football draft ever, because gamblers have had little else to put their money on because of the coronavirus. It’s expected that the overall first pick tonight will be LSU quarterback Joe Burrow. the Bengals have that first pick, followed by the Redskins, who are expected to take Ohio State defensive star Chase Young.
The NHL is no longer considering playing games at non-NHL rinks in neutral sites when the season resumes, according to ESPN and Sportsnet. The league had been eyeing places like New Hampshire and North Dakota, but that’s been dropped. The latest plan is to hold games in 2 to 4 NHL arenas, based on the severity of the virus in those locales.
The Boston Red Sox avoided major penalties as a result of MLB’s cheating probe. League Commissioner Rob Manfred determined that Boston’s sign-stealing in 2018 wasn’t as bad as the Houston Astros’ when they won the World Series in 2017. The Sox do lose a second round draft pick and their replay system operator has been suspended.
