Nats Rout Reds, O’s Nipped By Yanks, Skins Host Cincy Tonight
The Washington Nationals scored 10 times in the 5th inning and 6 more times in the 6th on the way to a 17-7 rout of the Cincinnati Reds yesterday in DC. The Nats sent 13 men to the plate in that 5th frame, which featured a key hit from winning pitcher Stephen Strasburg, and home runs from Anthony Rendon, Adam Eaton, and Kurt Suzuki. The Nationals, who moved 10 games above .500 for the first time this season, have the day off before hosting Milwaukee for a 3-game weekend series starting tomorrow night on Sports Radio 1450.
Make it 16 wins in a row over Baltimore for the New York Yankees, who nipped the Birds 6-5 yesterday in the Big Apple. Gary Sanchez homered for the Yanks, who hit 61 home runs against Baltimore and went 17-2 against the O’s this season. The Orioles have the day off today before entertaining Boston this weekend at Camden Yards.
The Washington Redskins play their preseason home opener tonight against the Cincinnati Bengals. The ‘Skins are coming off a 30-10 loss to Cleveland last week. Coach Jay Gruden announced yesterday that QB Colt McCoy will miss tonight’s game due to injury. Kickoff is set for 7:30 at Fed-Ex Field.
