Gio Struggles Again…O’s Make It 3 Straight…Venus and Serena Advance
The Nationals were edged by the Philadelphia Phillies last night 8-6. Gio Gonzales struggled again for the Nats, giving up 6 runs in 5 innings, including a go-ahead grand slam. Juan Soto, Trey Turner, and Anthony Rendon all homered for the Nationals, who have the day off before moving on to Milwaukee for a 3-game weekend set.
The Orioles got out the brooms, as they swept the Blue Jays with a 10-5 win last night. Adam Jones had the big blow for the Birds, with a grand slam. The O’s now head to Kansas City for a weekend series against the Royals starting tomorrow.
The Redskins and Ravens meet in the so-called “Battle of the Beltways” tonight in the preseason finale. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30.
There are a number of college football games tonight, including number 21 UCF at U-Conn. As for the regional teams…JMU travels to NC State Saturday at noon, #17 WVU plays Tennessee Saturday at 3:30 in Charlotte NC, UVA hosts Richmond Saturday at 6, and #20 Va Tech plays at #19 Florida State Monday night at 8. The Shenandoah Hornets travel to Methodist for a 12:30 air time on The River 95-3.
Venus and Serena Willams both advanced at the US Open…seting up their earliest meeting in a Grand Slam tournament in 20 years. Rafael Nadal also advanced, while Andy Murray was eliminated.
