Bowl Roundup, UVA Hoop Stops Irish, WFT Preps For Eagles
In college bowl action yesterday, Wisconsin beat Wake Forest 42-28 in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, despite being out-gained 518 to 266 in total yards. 4 interceptions hurt the Demon Deacons, who finish their season at 4-5. In the Goodyear Cotton Bowl, number-6 Oklahoma blew out number-7 Florida 55-20, as the Sooners piled up almost 700 total yards.
In today’s action, Tulsa takes on Mississippi State in the Armed Forces Bowl. The Arizona Bowl matches Ball State against San Jose State at 2. And, at 4pm, West Virginia takes on 9-2 Army in the Liberty Bowl. The Texas Bowl has been canceled.
Among the New Year’s Day bowls are the 2 semifinal games in the College Football Playoff. At 4, number-1 Alabama takes on number-4 Notre Dame in the Rose Bowl, while number-2 Clemson battles number-3 Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl. The 2 winners will play January 11th for the CFP National Championship.
To college basketball, where number-23 Virginia beat Notre Dame 66-57. The Cavaliers overcame a 6-point halftime deficit to improve to 5-2.
And, quarterback Taylor Hienicke took first-team reps yesterday as the Washington Football Team prepares for it’s must-win game Sunday night against the Philadelphia Eagles. Washington is hoping to have Alex Smith ready for the contest, as he continues to battle a calf injury. With a win Sunday night, the WFT wins the NFC East and would host a first-round playoff game.
