Hornet Men & Women Lose Road Games, Area HS Hoop,
In area girls high school basketball last night:
Strasburg defeated Central 33-24
Clarke beat Rappahannock 55-46
and James Wood routed Faquier 53-19
In boys high school hoop:
Millbrook got past Washington 56-49
Spotswood beat Sherando 65-33
Clarke nipped Rappahannock 51-47
and Wakefield Country Day fell to Timber Ridge 57-49
The Shenandoah University men lost an overtime heartbreaker to Marymount last night 88-81. SU erased an 11-point deficit to send the game into OT, but the Saints scored the first 8 points of the extra frame to pull away. Chris Chaney led the way for Shenandoah, with 22 points and 11 boards. Next up for the Hornets, a Saturday home matchup with Roanoke. Tip off is 4pm on The River 95-3.
The SU women fared no better, dropping a road contest at Eastern Mennonite 63-47. EMU had 14 steals against the Hornets, who fell to 8-9 on the season and 4-6 in the ODAC. SU was led by Jordan Sondrol’s 16 points, and will return to the Wilkins Center Saturday at 2 against Roanoke.
And the slumping Washington Capitals return to the ice tomorrow night in DC against the Islanders. The Caps have lost 6 of their last 9. Face off is 7:30.
