The Shenandoah University men’s basketball team fell to Washington & Lee last night in Lexington, 96-81. The Generals raced to a 55-31 and cruised to the win, despite a 50-point second half by the Hornets. W&L featured 6 players in double figures, while SU’s Chris Chaney once again led the Hornets with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Next up for the Hornet men is a Saturday trip to Randolph. Tip off is 4:30 on The River 95-3.
The Hornet women posted a home win last night against Virginia Wesleyan, 63-59. Shenandoah outscored the Marlins 20-11 in the final quarter with solid free-throw shooting down the stretch, and improved to 9-10 on the season and 5-7 in the ODAC. Ashley Stone paced the Hornets with 21, while Jordan Sondrol had 11, including 7-of-8 from the free throw line. The SU women will hit the road Saturday for a 2pm tip at Washington & Lee.
Make it 7 losses in a row for the Washington Capitals, who dropped a 6-3 decision last night in Toronto. The Caps have now given up 21 goals in their last 3 games, and have fallen 3 points behind the New York Islanders in the NHL’s Metro Division. Next up for the Caps is a Friday skate in DC against the Flames. Because of the Skyline-Warren County basketball game, there will be no broadcast on Sports Radio 1450.
And, it’s a Kevin Durant homecoming tonight as the Golden State Warriors visit the Wizards at 8.
