SU Comeback Falls Short, Flyers Nip Caps, Nats Signings
DJ Hill’s baseline jumper with 6 seconds to go proved to be the game-winner last night as Eastern Mennonite downed Shenandoah at the Wilkins Center 80-79. The Hornets rallied from a 17-point deficit and led late 77-73, but failed to make key foul shots down the stretch. The 5-8, 2-2 Hornets were led by Zach Garrett’s 17 points. Next up for SU, a Saturday 2pm tip at Roanoke. Air time is 1:45 on The River 95-3.
The Washington Capitals gave up a 2nd period shorthanded goal and fell to the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 last night. The Caps got goals from Nicklas Backstrom and Jakub Vrana, but were 0-for-5 on power play opportunities, as they suffered just their 10th regulation loss of the season. The Capitals return to the ice Saturday when they host New Jersey. Air time is 6:45 on CBS Sports Radio 1450.
And the Washington Nationals continued their flurry of off-season moves yesterday when they officially signed infielder Asdrubal Cabrera to a one-year deal and former Brewers first baseman Eric Thames to a one year contract with mutual option for 2021.
