Truex,Jr. Wins at Martinsville, Nats Draft Cavalli, Federer Out For 2020
Martin Truex,Jr. surged to a NASCAR Cup Series event last night at Martinsville Speedway. It was his first win of the season and second straight at Martinsville. Ahead of last night’s race came the announcement that NASCAR is banning the Confederate flag at all it’s events and venues. Bubba Wallace, NASCAR’s only African-American driver, finished 11th in a car that featured a #BlackLivesMatter design.
The Washington Nationals selected right handed pitcher Cade Cavalli out of the University of Oklahoma with the number 22 selection in last night’s 2020 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Cavalli, a 6-4, 226 pound junior, was 1-2 with a 4.18 ERA this season for the Sooners, prior to the cancellation of their season. The Detroit Tigers had the number-one overall pick, and chose slugger Spencer Torkelson from Arizona State.
And, when and if tennis resumes play this year, it will be without Roger Federer. The 38 year-old Federer said yesterday that he’ll miss the reset of the 2020 season due to a setback in his recovery from knee surgery. The 20-time Grand Slam champ tweeted that a second procedure will delay his return until 2021.
