VBL Scores, Nats Extend Streak To 4, US Open Begins

On the Valley League scoreboard from last night, Winchester nipped Strasburg 3-2, Woodstock blanked Front Royal 1-0, and New Market outslugged Purcellville 12-9. Waynesboro and Covington were also winners.

Tonight in the VBL, games include Purcellville at Front Royal, while Woodstock travels to New Market.

Josh Bell cracked a 2-run homer against his former team, as the Washington Nationals completed a sweep of Pittsburgh with a 3-1 matinee win in DC. Starter Paolo Espino earned his first career win, tossing 5 innings of shutout baseball, as the Nats won their fourth straight game. The Nationals are off today before starting a weekend series against the Mets.

The Baltimore Orioles dropped their seventh straight game, as they fell to the Cleveland Indians 8-7. The Birds, who outhit the Tribe 12-9, were led by Ryan Mountcastle, who went 3-for-5 and drove in 4 runs. The O’s try to avoid the sweep today, as the two teams play the series finale at 1:10.

And the third major of the golf season, the 2021 U.S. Open, gets underway today at Torrey Pines near San Diego. The first round gets underway at 9:45 Eastern. Bryson DeChambeau is the defending champion.
