More Testing For PGA, NYC Marathon Canceled,’Skins Remove Founder
PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said yesterday that there will be extra coronavirus testing and stricter protocol monitoring of protocols after 3 positive tests this week. Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from this week’s Travelers Championship because his caddie Rickie Elliott has tested positive. Graeme McDowell has also pulled out of the tournament due to a positive test by his caddie Ken Comboy. Webb Simpson has also withdrawn. The Travelers begins today.
The New York City Marathon was canceled yesterday because of the pandemic, wiping out what was supposed to have been the 50th anniversary of the event. Organizers and city officials decided it would be too risky to hold the race, which was supposed to have been November 1st.
And, The Washington Redskins have removed founder and former owner George Preston Marshall from their ring of fame, the history wall at Redskins Park, and all references to him on their website. Marshall was a segregationist, who refused to sign black players until the league forced him to do so in 1962. Marshall was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963, and owned the franchise from 1932 until 1969.
