SU Baseball Wins, Softball Splits…Caps Fall In OT, WVU Advances
Shenandoah University Baseball improved to 8-3 and 3-1 in the ODAC by beating Bridgewater yesterday 7-5. Carson Kulina worked 6 innings for the Hornets, picking up his second win in nine days. SU returns home this afternoon for a 3:30 contest against Mount Aloysius.
In softball, the Hornets split a pair of games yesterday with Eastern Mennonite, winning the opener 7-6 in extra innings, then dropping the nightcap 7-1. With the split, SU is 9-8 and 1-1 in the ODAC.
The Washington Capitals lost to Tampa Bay last night in OT 5-4. Evgeny Kuznetsov’s 100th career goal tied the contest, but the Lightning got the win in the extra period. The Caps entertain Minnesota tomorrow at 7 on CBS Sports Radio 1450.
WVU used a 22-2 run in the second half to pull away from Grand Canyon 77-63 last night in Morgantown in the first round of the CBI basketball tournament. The 15-20 Mounties now advance to Monday’s second round against Coastal Carolina.
North Dakota State and Arizona State advanced to the field of 64 in the NCAA Basketball Tournament with wins in the “First Four” games in Dayton. North Dakota State will now take on Duke, while Arizona State will play Buffalo in first round games.
The Big Dance gets underway in earnest this afternoon with 16 games on tap today and tonight. Of the five Virginia schools to make the tournament, only 14-seed ODU plays tonight when they take on 3rd-seed Purdue at 9:50. Virginia, Virginia Tech, VCU, and Liberty all play tomorrow.
And, it’s the Cardinals and Nationals today on the Spring Training circuit. Opening Day is next Thursday when the Nats host the Mets on CBS Sports Radio 1450.
